Diamond

April’s birthstone is probably the most renowned in the gem world- the diamond! Diamonds are made of carbon, the only gemstone composed of one single element. Symbolizing strength and eternity, they are paralleled physically by their extreme chemical resilience as they are the hardest substance known to man. As we’re sure you’re aware, the modern engagement ring is the poster child for diamond jewelry. The history of gifting engagement rings dates back to the Ancient Romans. However, the first commissioned diamond engagement ring was gifted by Archduke Maximillian of Austria to Mary of Burgundy in 1477. It wasn’t until the late 1940s that DeBeers, the largest diamond consortium in the trade, would launch its campaign “A Diamond is Forever”. This would change the perception of the diamond as an essential symbol of unity in Western culture into the 21st century.

Featured this month is a handcrafted, serpentine diamond ring. Made out of platinum, this piece features a beautiful, trillion-cut center diamond. Accented with ruby eyes and emerald and diamond ‘scales’, this piece is eye-catching as well as sleek.
